Router configuration is a meticulous task, where you need to set up the router as per your needs and requirements. You generally get a CD along with your router for the configuration process. This CD is required, to install the drivers and updates for your router.
In case you have misplaced or lost the CD, then also no need to worry as the configuration is easy even without the CD.
Step 1: Connect your router to your computer using an ethernet cable, one end of the cable goes inside the LAN port of your D-Link router while the other goes inside the Ethernet port on your computer.
Now, the ADSL cable from your ISP will be inserted into the WAN port of your router. Wait for a few minutes to let the connection between the two devices get established.
Step 2: Open, your web browser and type in your IP address in the given URL field and hit enter to get to your router’s login portal.
Step 3: log in to your router with the SSID and Password provided by your ISP, if your ISP did not provide you with any such credentials, enter ’admin’ in the SSID field and leave the password field blank.
Step 4: Now you will be redirected to the main settings page from where you will configure your router. Open the WAN settings tab, and enable DHCP on your router. This will help your router to get an automatic IP address from the server, instead, you change it every now and then. Also, check the box for PPPoE settings.
Step 5: Once the WAN settings have been configured, save the settings and go to the main page. From here, click on security settings. On the security tab, change your encryption type to WPA2 and just below that you will notice a box for ‘pass-key’, this is your wifi password.
Change it and create your own password which should be strong enough and cannot be easily guessed.
Step 6: Save the settings and you have successfully configured your router without the CD. Now, in order to download the software programs, and drivers for your router, head over to the official vendor website of your router and search for your device.
Once you find your device, go to its respective download section and download all available router drivers and firmware. Install them one by one and your router is ready to use.
This is how you configure your D-Link router without the need for a CD. Hopefully, these steps helped you in resolving your problem.
